Cycling day trip from Budapest I. kerület to Szentendre

This bike ride takes you from the charming heart of Budapest’s Castle District (I. kerület), known for its cobblestone streets and the iconic Buda Castle, all the way up to the riverside town of Szentendre. The route is about 30 km, mostly on smooth, paved surfaces—and you’ll be happy to hear most of it follows dedicated cycleways and peaceful roads.

Leaving the bustling city behind, you’ll pedal along the Danube, with flat terrain and only a little bit of climbing. About halfway, you’ll get those classic river views, watch boats go by, and maybe spot some herons or rowers. As you roll into Szentendre, you’re greeted by colorful baroque houses, art galleries, and cobbled squares—perfect for a post-ride ice cream or a coffee along the riverfront.
