About This Route

In einem Hochbuchenwald erhebt sich eine ungefähr zwanzig Meter hohe Felswand aus Travertin, die das Reich des »Kakus« beherbergt. Der Riese »Kakus« soll hier einst gewohnt haben und daher trägt die Kartsteinhöhle heute noch seinen Namen.

 

Die Kakushöhle ist eine Kalksteinhöhle mit mehreren Nebenhöhlen. In dieser nachweisbar ältesten Wohnstätte von Menschen im Rheinland konnten bei mehreren Ausgrabungen Reste von Urwerkzeugen und Waffen sowie Knochenreste ausgestorbener gefunden werden.
