Waggum-Riddagshausen-Waggum 2

Mountain bike route from Waggum to Riddagshausen and back in a loop. The route is about 39 km long and climbs approximately 175 meters in elevation. The route mainly follows well-maintained field and forest paths with gravel or asphalt surfaces. The tour can also be completed with regular bikes, although the trails can be more challenging to ride with narrow tires on wet ground. Short route description: The tour starts in Waggum at the Feuerbrunnen and runs next to the sports field parallel to the runway of Waggum Airport. At 2.6 km, the connecting road toward Hondelage is crossed. The first trail starts at the memorial of 'Nina' and leads about 250 m along a path toward the A2. The route briefly passes through Dibbesdorf via the Schunter lowland. At 10.4 km, there is a nice trail through a forest near Schapen. With a rolling profile (about 20 meters elevation), the forest path passes some easy ditch crossings and a wooden bridge toward Schapen. At 14.5 km, a short detour to a viewing platform overlooking the Riddagshausen marshlands. At 14.8 km, the first junction of the outbound and return routes is reached. To avoid getting lost, all subsequent junctions require a sharp left turn. At 18 km, the highest point of the route is reached. According to my knowledge, the most beautiful downhill trail in Riddagshausen follows (about 950 m, 20 meters downhill). On wet and muddy ground, it is less suitable for regular bikes; in this case, use the main path parallel to the trail. At 20 km, the former shooting range from 1900 with an information board. At 21 km, a trail parallel to the railway line, hard to ride with narrow tires on wet ground. After crossing the Ebertalle, the path continues toward Wabe. Shortly before the bridge, one can either follow the path or turn right onto the railway embankment and ride a path above the trail (in case of flooding, this is the only option). At 25.8 km, a short 450 m trail toward Schäfersruh. At 26.7 km, viewing platform to observe dragonflies in summer. At 27 km, refreshment opportunity at the restaurant 'Schäfersruh'. At 32 km, crossing the Querumer Forest and a short pedestrian path along the fence of the former Hussar barracks. Then the route heads toward Bienrode and runs parallel past the gravel pit to the endpoint in Waggum.
