Accommodation just behind the town of Isola: Camping Le Lac des Neiges

The Le Lac des Neiges campsite is located just behind the town of Isola towards Saint-Étienne-de-Tinné, nestled between the La Tinée river and the main road M2205. The only sound is the rushing river. On both sides, it is flanked by steep slopes, a rising valley towards Col de la Bonette. The sanitary facilities are perfectly fine, nice and clean. Free Wifi is available (of course, you need to sit at the reception where the signal is strongest). Again, no complaints or remarks. If you haven't bought baguettes for breakfast, you can ride in the morning to a bakery 1.5 km from the campsite (Place Jean Gaissa / Isola). Right next to the bakery is a small shop, all opposite the La Madone church.

An explanation of why we returned on road D28 and took road D428: Originally, we intended to take road D28 through Beuil and connect to road D30 towards Roubion and then onwards to Saint-Sauveur-sur-Tinée. This route is lined with beautiful red rocks. Unfortunately, there were construction works on one of several tunnels along the road. Therefore, we had to opt for a backup plan that we had prepared. We turned back a little and took road D428 via Pierlas and Ilonse to road M2205. After six kilometers, in Saint-Sauveur-sur-Tinée, we rejoined the original route. What I must praise is that behind Pierlas, at the very top of the road to Col de la Sinne (1438 m), there is a really beautiful resting spot. On a lovely grassy area, there are tables with benches, where you can, for example, have lunch. And along with that, those wonderful panoramas. Afterwards, a 14 km descent with an altitude drop of 1030 meters. That's perfect.
