Carpathian MTB Epic
Start from: Sinaia, Telegondola Finish at: Cheile Gradistei Fundata, the Race Village
The first stage of CARPATHIAN MTB EPIC starts in the city of Sinaia. The competition route will reveals points of important significance given the history of the region. The race follows the Royal Road and sets you on a challenging climb of the Bucegi Mountains, right up to 2,000 m. You will pass by the Piatra Arsa sports facility – the only one at this altitude in the country, and then charge the mountain plateau where you will discover some of the most important and rare natural monuments in Europe: Babele – 2,292 m, two big stones compared with a couple of old ladies given their shape, and the Sfinx, a megalith resembling a human head. The plateau offers amazing sights of the Prahova Valley an the entire Transylvanian Highlands.
The climb offers breathtaking views as you will reach Omu Peak at 2,514 meters, the highest in Bucegi Mountains. The journey continues to Gavanele Peak – 2,493 m and follows the tracks of an old border on Drumul Granicerilor which separated Romania from the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the 19th century. Next you will reach Batrana refuge and Saua Strunga – a pass 150 years old between Brasov and Dambovita counties. The descent leads you through incredible landscapes straight to Poiana Gutanu beneath the western slope of Bucegi Mountains, and then, to the Finish line, at the Olympic level Race Village – Cheile Gradistei Fundata.
