The climbs are tough and the scenery is spectacular—from pine forests and craggy peaks to hidden rivers below. Keep in mind: about three-quarters of the route has undefined surfaces, so a gravel or mountain bike is your best bet. There are paved highlights, but expect a good mix: gravel, forest tracks, and some quiet country roads.
