Riverside tracks and canal side towpaths from Avonbridge to Linlithgow. Detailed description below Opposite Avonbridge shop and post office follow sign marked Avon Heritage Path (green on signpost) 600 m down gravel road to Millhouse on the River Avon, turn right onto track  along fence and continue south along river for 6 ½ km when you pass beneath massive Westfield viaduct. Track may be  Path is signposted with blue arrow and may be rough in places with steps . Continue another 5 km along river until wooden bridge which you cross onto the west bank of Avon . Continue another 3 km to arrive at Muiravonside visitor centre, cafe and picnic area. Follow Avon Heritage Path and blue arrows along track on left and high above river, and then descend to open area and houses then take signed path  to aqueduct passing bench by river and arriving beneath the aqueduct. Take the 112 wooden steps up and arrive on aqueduct and proceed along Union Canal towpath 5 km to the centre of Linlithgow by the railway station and opposite Linlithgow Palace. Plenty of shops, pubs and B&Bs nearby. Frequent bus and train services. This is the 3rd section of the great pilgrim trail, the Ladywell Way, from Motherwell in Lanarkshire to the Forth Road Bridge  and then on to St Andrews.
