Gita in bici di un giorno da Rothenburg ob der Tauber a Gunzenhausen

Set off from the fairytale streets of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, an incredibly well-preserved medieval town that feels straight out of a storybook (don’t forget to snap a few photos before you go!). Your 66 km ride rolls south toward Gunzenhausen, tracing a patchwork of quiet country roads, peaceful paths, and scenic tracks through the heart of Franconia.

You’ll find mostly paved surfaces under your wheels for a smooth experience, but expect the odd gravel or less-developed section to keep things interesting. With climbs and descents spread pretty evenly (around 350 meters up and down), this route won’t totally exhaust you—perfect for soaking up all the rolling countryside and quaint villages as you cruise along.

Once you reach Gunzenhausen, you’ll find yourself at the gateway to the Altmühlsee lake and the lovely Altmühltal Nature Park—a real treat if you’re into lakeside relaxation or birdwatching. All in all, it’s a scenic ride between two charming Bavarian destinations, great for a leisurely day in the saddle.
