Ready for a breezy Atlantic ride? This route takes you from the bustling port city of La Rochelle all the way down to Royan, covering just over 114 km along mostly flat and scenic ground. You’ll set off from La Rochelle’s picturesque Vieux-Port (Old Harbour)—a great spot for a pre-ride coffee—then follow a mix of dedicated cycleways and quiet roads hugging the sweeping coastline. Expect a gentle ride: the total ascent is under 250 meters, with hardly any big hills.

Much of the way is on good pavement and asphalt, but be prepared for occasional sections of gravel or unpaved paths—nothing a hybrid or touring bike can’t handle. Take time to enjoy open sea views, salt marshes, and charming villages along the way.

At the finish, Royan greets you with long sandy beaches and a cool mid-century vibe (much of the town was rebuilt in the 1950s). It’s the perfect spot for a post-ride dip and maybe a seafood platter on the promenade. C’est la vie at its best—Atlantic coast style!
