Here’s a great suburban escape from Sofia to Elin Pelin, just under 40 km and mostly flat, making it an accessible ride for a chill day out. Starting off in Sofia, Bulgaria’s vibrant capital, you’ll leave the city buzz behind and soon find yourself pedaling along quiet roads and sleepy side streets. The route is about half paved and mostly on low-traffic roads, so you won’t have to dodge cars all the way.

There’s only a little bit of gentle climbing (just over 65 meters), so it’s friendly even if your legs aren’t in race mode. As you roll into Elin Pelin—a small but lively town east of Sofia—you might notice its historic charm and relaxed pace.
