Alta Museum The museum includes an indoor exhibition of historical local cultures and industries, as well as an outdoor circular route (~1.2 km in length), which goes through the prehistoric rock art that has been discovered in the area via a well-maintained and mostly elevated path. Thousands of rock carvings from between 2000 and 7000 years ago have been registered here, most of which have been superbly preserved on the bedrock. They provide a glimpse into the lives, thoughts and rituals of prehistoric hunter-gatherers as they tried to understand the world around them both physically and spiritually.

Melsviktunnelen Length: 2467m Lighting: Yes Comments : The whole tunnel is well lit. Going from the north to the south the first 300 meters is ascending, the rest is decending. There still is a side walk for cyclists and pedestrians. Alternative route : There used to be a nice alternative route (pre-tunnel road) along coast east of tunnel. Do NOT go this way, road was cut off by huge landslide, but inadequately marked. ??current situation
