    JEFFERSON AVENUE is the oldest road in Wayne County. Once known simply as the River Road, it was a path used by Native people before the area was colonized by Europeans.

In the 1980s a toxic chemical spill related to local steel production necessitated extensive cleanup before converting the land to a park, but it now features baseball and soccer fields as well as an inline skating rink and extensive walking trails.
