This scenic ride starts on the shores of Schluchsee, the Black Forest’s largest lake and a favorite spot for water sports and relaxation. The route to Hinterzarten covers a bit over 18 km and treats you to some classic Black Forest scenery—think tall pines, rolling hills, and open meadows. You’ll climb a few decent hills (total ascent is about 425 m), but what goes up must come down, and the nearly 480 m of descent makes for some fun stretches.

About three-quarters of the way is on paved or asphalt surfaces, so it’s friendly for most bikes, though about a quarter includes some well-maintained gravel and forest paths—just enough for that off-the-beaten-track vibe. Traffic stays light: you’ll spend most of your time on peaceful country roads or dedicated paths, perfect for soaking up the views.
