Ready for a taste of the Harz mountains? This cycling route starts in the charming town of Ilsenburg, known for its half-timbered houses and as a gateway to Harz National Park. From there, you’ll wind your way south to Braunlage—another scenic spot, famous for ski resorts and mountain hikes.

The ride covers about 52 km, and it’s definitely an adventure. You’ll face over 900 meters of climbing as you cruise past lush forests and rolling hills, reaching elevations above 600 meters. Nearly half the route is unpaved, so it’s perfect if you like gravel, earth, or stone beneath your tires. You’ll mix it up between forest tracks, quiet roads, and gravel paths—expect a few fun bumps and wild stretches, but very little busy road traffic.

At the finish, Braunlage welcomes you with alpine vibes and, if you have energy left, a well-deserved slice of cake. Bring your camera—the views are well worth the effort!
