A short but punchy ride from the lakeshore to Bavaria’s “Holy Mountain.” Roll out from Herrsching am Ammersee’s pretty promenade and follow the signs toward Andechs/Kiental. After a gentle start on quiet streets, the climb kicks in: roughly 200 m of elevation over about 5.3 km. Expect a mix of smooth asphalt and forest/gravel paths, with some rooty sections in the Kiental gorge—totally rideable on a trekking/gravely setup; wider tires help. Watch for hikers and keep your speed in check in the gorge.

You’ll pop out into open meadows with the abbey up ahead, then tackle a final short ramp to Kloster Andechs. The Benedictine monastery is famous for its pilgrimage church and its brewery—grab a stein in the beer garden and soak up views over Ammersee and, on clear days, the Alps.
