This ride takes you from the French coastal town of Hendaye into Spain’s vibrant Donostia / San Sebastian—two gems of the Basque Country connected by beautiful landscapes and just enough hills to work up an appetite for pintxos! Starting in Hendaye, a popular spot for beach-lovers and surfers on the Atlantic, you’ll head southwards, winding through picturesque countryside and hugging parts of the dramatic coastline.

The route is about 36 km and mostly sticks to quiet roads and dedicated cycleways, so it’s perfect for a relaxed day out (with a few solid climbs to keep things interesting!). You’ll climb nearly 600 meters—enjoy those sweeping bay views as your reward.

Crossing from France into Spain, you’ll notice the shift in scenery—and maybe even language on signposts! After the last hills, you’ll descend towards San Sebastian, known for its beautiful old town and famous La Concha beach. Treat yourself at the end: you’ve earned it! Expect lots of paved surfaces, but there are some stretches where the path is less obvious, so keep an eye out. Happy cycling!
