Roll out from Budapest’s IX. kerület (Ferencváros) and head for the Danube—think landmarks like the Great Market Hall, Liberty Bridge, and the National Theatre/Müpa. Cross to the Buda side and pick up the riverside cycle path, then just keep the river on your right and cruise north. You’ll thread through Óbuda and the leafy Római-part, with plenty of spots for a coffee or lángos, and pass near the Roman ruins of Aquincum.

It’s about 36 km to Szentendre on mostly smooth surfaces: roughly 58% dedicated cycleways and 39% quiet roads, with predominantly asphalt under your wheels and a few brief patches of paving stones or cobbles near town. The ride is largely flat with gentle ups and downs (around 220 m total ascent).

Szentendre greets you with colorful baroque facades, Serbian church towers, art galleries, and cobbled lanes by the riverside. If you’ve got time, check out the Open-Air Ethnographic Museum (Skanzen) or the sweet little Marzipan Museum before rolling back or hopping a train.
