South Tokushima Coastal Route

Perfectly undulating and winding semi-coastal route with fantastic vistas and overgrown giant bamboo forests. I did over two days on a 4-speed shopping bike and enjoyed prolonged flashbacks to my childhood love of peddling. Sections too windy and inconvenient for cars or motorcycle but perfect for bikes, so you’ll probably see little or no traffic on most sections. No crazy hill climbs here. It is all paved, but there is an exciting amount of fine gravel due the absence of other traffic.  Due to the gravel standard bike tyres or fatter recommended. Eateries are cheap but plan ahead as there are not many past Minami.  We ate in Minami on day one. We left our bikes at Yuki Station overnight. On day two we took a detour to eat at the public hot spring on Gamoda Misaki – extra couple of miles off the route. Access by train or bus starting from Mugi Station and finishing at Awa Fukui Station.
