Overall, this was a great route for getting from Casa Grande to Scottsdale. There were a few very low traffic roads, but most of the roads with traffic had pretty good road shoulder. The portion aloong SR87 had very heavy traffic with loud obnoxious road noise, but there was wide shoulder that was mostly of good quality for the entire time we were on SR87.
From the time we headed north through Chandler, Mesa, and Tempe to get to Scottsdale, we were on excellent bike lane or bicycle paths for maybe 95% of the time. These communities are very bicycle friendly despite the area's heavy reliance on motor vehicles.
Within Scottsdale itself, there was a long excellent bicycle path that went on for miles.
Just one thing to watch out for on this route. Going through Sacaton, there were a bunch of loose dogs who came onto the street to bark at us. We didn't have any problems with any of them trying to bite us or get in front of our wheels, but it was slightly disconcerting none the less.
