Germersheim/Speyer

The annual Spezialradmesse is held in Germersheim in late April; Speyer has some nice places to stay, so biking back and forth is useful. But the Rhein Radweg is a Polstergebiet here, and Spezi is during spring high water -- so portions of the Radweg may be almost impassably muddy. In 2013, we scouted several possible routes, and used this one. There was a posted and pretty well-labeled Umleitung, which we used between Lingenfeld and Mechtersheim. The route depicted is from the Stadthalle Germersheim to the Domhof Hotel, Speyer. It's slightly longer than indicated, because the bike paths sometimes diverged a bit from the roads to accommodate traffic circles and other interchanges; the BikeMap maps' largest scale was still not enough to make those details easy to depict.

A different route we scouted stayed on Germersheimer Strasse much longer when headed from Speyer to Germersheim; this was also potentially good, but had a pretty long stretch with no shoulder and pretty high traffic, so we found it less attractive.
