This 20th section of St Ninian’s Way starts from the centre of Maybole. Follow Bike Route 7 north-west to crossroads (1km). Continue across and up hillside on track to sharp bend (2.5km). Leave Bike Route 7 and continue uphill and north-west along track through wood and then down the hill to Dunduff farm (5 km) take track to right,north-east, past ruins of Dunduff Castle on the right, to T-junction (1 km). Turn left- West - and proceed 300 m to junction with road A719. Cross over A719 and proceed to harbour of Dunure (1.5 km). Pick up Ayrshire Coastal Path, hugging the coast, to point overlooking the ruins of Greenan Castle (8 km). Continue along the ACP to the centre of Ayr (6 km).
Alternative 2. Taking a route into areas made famous by Robert Burns . Turn south-east along ACP to junction with A719 (1 km). Continue along and cross the Auld Brig of Doon (2 km), then onto the B7024, passing Alloway Kirk , Burns’s cottage , and St Leonard's Chapel up to the centre of Ayr and the south end of the Auld Bridge (5 km).
Through the hills and along the coast, then inland through famous Burns landmarks.
