Az útvonal Vas megye nyugati tájaiból és a határmente osztrák oldalából ad ízelítőt változatos tájakon, előbb a Rába és a Pinka völgyében haladva, majd a határmenti dombokon kínál szép kilátópontokat, kulturális, történelmi és gasztronómiai érdekességeket. Az útvonal második szakaszán dombosabb, és a záró magyarországi szakaszon jó minőségű erdészeti úton haladunk, azonban normál kondícióval egy nap alatt teljesíthető a túra.

Szentgotthárdról a Kethelyi úton haladunk Rábakethelyen, majd Magyarlakon és Csörötneken át Rábagyarmatra kényelmes, közepes minőségű, alacsony forgalmú aszfaltozott közúton a Rába völgyében. Rábagyarmatnál a Kocsis László utcán balra kanyarodunk, és átkelünk a Rába bal partjára, hogy elérjük Rátótot, majd onnan néhány kilométeren keresztül a 8-as út mellett haladunk Csákánydoroszlóig, ahol tábla jelzi a leágazást Kemestaródfa felé, aminek Fő utcáján át haladva átkelünk a Pinkán, majd elérünk Pinkaszentkirályig. Itt a körforgalomnál balra tartunk a Rákóczi utcán, majd a 8708-as úton érjük el Pinkamindszentet és az osztrák határt, amelynek túloldalán Moschendorfba érünk, ahol balra kanyarodunk a B56-os úton, immár a Vasfüggöny-kerékpárút nyomvonalát követve, aminek táblái innen végigkísérnek vissza egészen Szentgotthárdig. A moschendorfi bormúzeumnál megállhatunk egy rövid pihenőre és igény szerint kóstolásra, azonban, ha bírjuk még szuflával, a következő domb után Heiligenbrunn pincéinél is tehetünk egy pihenőt – a dombról csodás panoráma nyílik Németújvár (Güssing) várára. Heiligenbrunn után meredek emelkedő következik, a fáradtságért az Alpokalja gyönyörű látványa és az azt követő lejtő kárpótol. Reinersdorfon és Grossmörbischen keresztül érkezünk Inzenhofba, ahonnan még egy könnyebb emelkedő visz fel a határnál található, izgalmas történettel bíró Szent Imre-templomhoz. Itt tehetünk egy utolsó pihenőt, megemlékezve a több évtizedes határzárról, mielőtt az erdészeti úton haladva leereszkednénk Rábafüzesig, és onnan tovább Szentgotthárdig, ahol a helyi termálfürdőn és strandon kipihenhetjük a túra fáradalmait.

Die Route bietet einen Überblick über die westlichen Teile des Komitats Vas und die österreichische Seite der Grenze in abwechslungsreichen Landschaften, zunächst im Tal von Rába und Pinka, und bietet anschließend schöne Aussichtspunkte sowie kulturelle, historische und kulinarische Sehenswürdigkeiten/Erlebnisse auf den Grenzhügeln. Der zweite Teil der Route ist dichter, und bei dem abschließender Teil an der ungarischen Seite fahren wirr auf Forstsraßen guter Qualität, mit guter Kontition ist es aber möglich die Tour in einem Tag zu absolvieren.

Wir fahren von Szentgotthárd an der Kethelyi-Straße durch Rábakethely, dann über Magyarlak und Csöröt nach Rábagyarmat, auf einer komfortablen, mittelschweren, asphaltierten Straße im Rába-Tal. In Rábagyarmat biegen wir links an der Kocsis László-Straße ein und überqueren das linke Ufer der Rába, um Rátót zu erreichen. Dann fahren wir einige Kilometer entlang der Straße 8 nach Csákánydoroszló, wo das Schild die Abzweigung nach Kemestaródfa anzeigt, dessen Hauptstraße uns über die Pinka führt, dann erreichen wir Pinkasentkirály. Am Kreisverkehr biegen wir links in die Rákóczi-Straße ein, dann auf der 8708 erreichen wir Pinkamindszentet und die österreichische Grenze, an dessen anderen Seite sich Moschendorf befindet. Dort biegen wir links auf der Straße B56 ab, und folgen den Radweg des Einsenen Vorhangs dessen Schilder uns bis zu Szentgotthárd führen. Im Weinmuseum von Moschendorfer können wir eine kurze Pause einlegen, je nach Bedarf um ein bischen Wein genießen zu können, wenn es zeitlich passt, können wir sneben dem Hügel in den Kellern von Heiligenbrunn ebenfalls eine Pause machen um unsz u erholen - wo es ein wunderbares Panorama des Schlosses in Güssing (Németújvár) gibt. Nach Heiligenbrunn geht es steil bergauf, wir werden aber mit der schönen Aussicht auf den Alpenostrand die anschließenden Abhang kompenziert. Durch Reinersdorf und Großmörbische gelangen wir nach Inzenhof, von wo aus ein leichter Anstieg zur Kirche St. Imre (eine Kirche mit einer spannenden Geschichte) an der Grenze führt. Hier können wir eine letzte Pause machen, um an die jahrzehntelange Schließung der Grenzen uns zu erinnern, bevor wir die Forststraße hinunter nach Rábafüzes und dann nach Szentgotthárd fahren, wo wir uns in der örtlichen Thermalbad und am Strand entspannen können.

This route gives a taste of the landscapes of Vas county’s northern regions and the Austrian side of the borderlands. It goes through the valley of Rába and Pinka then on the hills of the borderlands it offers beautiful panoramas and cultural, historical and gastronomical interests. The second part of the route has more ascension and on the closing Hungarian part you will follow a good quality forest road but to anyone in a normal condition it can be done in one day.

Leave Szentgotthárd on Kethelyi út to reach Rábagyarmat through Rábakethely, Magyarlak and Csörötnek on a comfortable, medium quality low traffic road in the valley of Rába. Turn left on Kocsis László utca and cross the Rába to its left bank to reach Rátót and then follow route 8 for a few kilometers to Csákánydoroszló where a sign shows the road towards Kemestaródfa where by following the main road you can cross Pinka and reach Pinkaszentkirály. Turn left at the roundabout to Rákóczi utca and reach Pinkamindszent and the Austrian border on route 8708 to arrive to Moschendorf. Turn left on route B56 and follow the Iron Curtain trail. Its signs show the way to Szentgotthárd. You may stop for a short brake and maybe a tasting at the wine museum of Moschendorf but if you still have the energy you can take that break after the next hill at the cellars of Heiligenbrunn – the hill offers a beautiful panorama to the castle of Németújvár (Güssing). After Heiligenbrunn there’s a steep ascent but the efforts are rewarded by the beautiful view of Alpokalja and the downhill road afterwards. Arrive to Inzenhof through Reinersdorf and Grossmörbisch where another steep brings you up to the Saint Imre church at the border that has an exciting history. After a last break go down to Rábafüzes on the forest road and continue to Szentgotthárd where the local thermal bath and beach will reward you for your efforts.
