Bikepacking from Setúbal to Sagres

Get ready for an epic ride down Portugal’s wild and beautiful southwest coast! This route takes you from the vibrant city of Setúbal, famous for its fresh seafood and beautiful Atlantic beaches, all the way to the legendary cliffs of Sagres at the very tip of the Algarve.

You’ll cover just over 240 km with a healthy amount of climbing (over 2,400 meters ascent), so bring your climbing legs! The surfaces are a mix—expect everything from smooth asphalt to stretches of gravel and unpaved tracks, which adds to the adventure but makes a gravel or touring bike a wise choice.

Most of your journey will be on quiet roads and tracks, winding through pine forests, cork-oak groves, and sweeping coastal views. As you ride further south, you’ll pass picturesque villages and maybe spot a stork or two.

Sagres itself is iconic—a breezy surf town perched above dramatic sea cliffs, where explorers like Henry the Navigator plotted their voyages. Once you reach the lighthouse at Cabo de São Vicente, you’ll have ridden to the edge of Europe. Celebrate with a well-earned local cerveja and take in that Atlantic breeze!
