By bicycle from Amsterdam to Amstelveen

Looking for a relaxed ride just outside the city? This route takes you from the heart of Amsterdam down to Amstelveen—a scenic journey of just over 11 km that’s mostly on smooth, traffic-calmed cycleways (thank you, Dutch infrastructure!). You’ll leave behind the canals and historic houses of central Amsterdam pretty quickly, heading south through leafy neighborhoods and possibly catching glimpses of the famous Vondelpark or Amsterdamse Bos en route.

It’s a gentle ride—only minor inclines, barely more than 10 meters of climbing total—so it’s perfect for all levels. Much of the path is on paved and asphalt surfaces with sections of classic Dutch paving stones, giving a mix of urban and suburban cycling.

Amstelveen is known for its modern vibe with great shopping, restaurants, and green spaces like the Amsterdamse Bos right next door, making it a fun spot to end your ride. Don’t forget to grab a coffee or pastry when you arrive—you’ve definitely earned it!
