Corinth

Today we start riding the north west coast of Saronic Gulf known for its thermal baths during the ancient years. It is believed that Helen of Troy, was having her baths in the little village of Loutra tis Oraias Elenis.. Don't let the beauty of the area deceive you...we are about to start climbing the main climb of the day. Aggelokastro, Agionori and the famous Castle of Ancient Corinth were battlefields and watchtowers where conquerors became defenders in the flow of time.

Cycling the switchbacks from Corinth to Epidavros and Nafplio, you 'll come to realize that few areas on earth can show 4,000years of unceased history. Pelasgians, Achaeans, Dorians, Romans, Francs, Venetians and Ottoman Turks lived, fought and crafted pieces of the modern western civilization puzzle. In the melting pot of time, cities like Argos, Mycenae, Corinth and Nafplio despotized and succeeded each other in power,and decadence, proving that this area was rightfully praised as no other from Homer, Sophocles, Euripides, Aeschylus, and 3500 years after, continues to inspire the arts and the theater.
