AIB2019 loop D: A trip to the Beach

Ruta ciclista en Christianshavn, Capital Region, Denmark

I built this route for the AIB conference. Two pieces of general advice for cycling in Denmark: 1) Stay on the right side of the cycle path to allow overtaking and 2) Use your hands to indicate you want to stop or change directions. This route adds extra kilometres to loop B, it is not self standing. When you get to the turn at Ved Stadsgraven, go left instead of right into Vermlandsgade. Then take a left into Uplandsgade. When you see the wind turbines, take a right into Amager Strandvej. You will then be able to turn left onto Amager strand (a beach area). Follow the cycle path there. As you exit turn right, back onto Amager Strandvej, followed by a left at Sven Vonvedsvej. Cross the metro line and enter Wibrandtsvej. You will follow this street until you hit Amagerbrogade. Take a right here. Follow Amagebrogade until you return to the beginning of this loop.

AIB2019 loop C: Vesterbro-CBS- Nørrebro

Ruta ciclista en Christianshavn, Capital Region, Denmark

I built this route for the AIB conference. Two pieces of general advice for cycling in Denmark: 1) Stay on the right side of the cycle path to allow overtaking and 2) Use your hands to indicate you want to stop or change directions. This route focuses on a few of Copenhagen's livelier spots, and also takes in CBS. Starting at Nyhavn and heading away from the water, turn left at Holbergsgade. At the end you reach Christiansborg where Danish parliament sits, as well as Børsen (the old stock exchange). Take a right here (Børsgade) along the water and continuing into Stormgade. You pass Tivoli gardens amusement park, then the central station. Follow Tietgensgade until the very end, turning right, then left in the roundabout into Halmtorvet. On your left is the old meatpacking district, now full of restaurants and bars. Take a right into Gasværksvej . You pass Istedgade which has traditionally house the city's red light district. At Vesterbrogade turn left, then take a right into Frederiksberg alle at the lights. Follow this street until the very end (in front of you is Frederiksberg Have, a large park that a/o house the zoo). Take a right into Allegade which becomes Falkoner Alle. On your left the Frederiksberg Center shopping mall appears. CBS is right behind this mall. At Frederiksberg Center take a right into the cycle path, you will follow this path as it winds through town (take care when crossing roads). Eventually you get back to the main road, taking a right at Jagtvej. You have now entered Nørrebro. On your right is Asistens Kirkegård a cemetery housing many famous Danes. Take a right at Nørrebrogade, continuing over the lakes into Fredensborggade. On your right you will see Torvehallerne, a covered market and a great stop for a drink or some food. At the end turn you rearch Nørreport station (Denmark's busiest, although all the action is underground), turn left here, followed by a quick right into Gothersgade. This street takes you to Kongens Nytorv. Once you cross this square you get back to Nyhavn.

AIb2019 loop B: Along the water

Ruta ciclista en Christianshavn, Capital Region, Denmark

I built this route for the AIB conference. Two pieces of general advice for cycling in Denmark: 1) Stay on the right side of the cycle path to allow overtaking and 2) Use your hands to indicate you want to stop or change directions. Start at Nyhavn and cross the foot/cycle bridge. At the end take a left across the bridge, staying close to the water and passing the Opera (to your left). Turn right at Fabriksmestervej, then immediately left at Dannesjold-Samsøes Alle. Follow the road through several curves. You are passing Noma, one of the world's top restaurants. Turn left following Reshalevej. Near the end of this road follow the signs for 'Reffen', a great open air food court on the water. It is worth stopping here for a drink or some food. Turn back along Refshalevej, taking a right towards Noma. Immediately after Noma turn left (confusingly still called Resfhalevej). You are at the back of Christiania (a 'Free State' within Copenhagen). Take a left onto Prinsesse Gade, then a left at Torvegade (a busy street in the middle of Christianshavn, one of Copenhagen's oldest areas). Take a right to follow the water (Ved Stadsgraven). Stay on the right hand side (Ved Langebro) as you approach a major bridge to go under the bridge, taking a left at the water, onto Islands Brygge. Continue along the water here, until you see a foot / bicycle bridge. Take a right to cross on this bridge (aptly name 'bicycle snake', as it is not 100% straight). At the end take a right into Kalvebod Brygge. You now continue to follow the water in the other direction for a while, passing among others the design museum and national library. At havnegade take a right. At the end of this street you have returned to Nyhavn.

AIB2019 loop A: Sightseeing

Ruta ciclista en Christianshavn, Capital Region, Denmark

I built this route for the AIB conference. Two pieces of general advice for cycling in Denmark: 1) Stay on the right side of the cycle path to allow overtaking and 2) Use your hands to indicate you want to stop or change directions. Loop A starts at Nyhavn. Go through Kongens Nytorv (the main square in Copenhagen). Then go straight ahead on Gothersgade, passing Rosenborg Slot and the botanical gardens. At the end you reach the lakes. Turn right on Øster Søgade. At the traffic lights go left over the lake and follow Fredensgade, turning right into Nørre Alle. You then turn right to enter Fælledparken (biggest park in Copenhagen proper) at Edel Sauntes Alle. Turn right at Øster Allee, passing the National and FC Copenhagen Football stadium. At Trianglen continue into Østerbrogade, soon followed by a left into Slagelsegade (take care when crossing here). Turn right at Livjægergade, then a left at Kastelsvej, followed by a right at Fridtjf Nansens Plads. Here you use the cycle bridge to go over the railway line. Continue straight ahead on Langelinie. At the end you rearch the famous little Mermaid. Take a right here and then go past the headquarters of Mærsk, Denmark's largest company into Amaliegade. Turn left to go into Toldbodgade, passing the Queen's castle (Amalienborg). Continue straight ahead to get back to Nyhavn.
