Excursión ciclista de un día de Peniche a Ericeira

Surf-town to surf-town vibes. Roll out from Peniche’s windswept headland—famous for Supertubos and the old seaside fortress—and head south along the Atlantic. Expect a classic coastal mix: punchy climbs out of coves, cliff-top views, and quiet farming lanes with the odd windmill. It’s about 70 km with roughly 1,100 m of climbing, mostly on quiet roads, plus some tracks and cycleway sections. There are a few gravel bits, so wider tires are a bonus.

You’ll skirt beach spots like Areia Branca and the Lourinhã area (dinosaurs and brandy, if you’re collecting trivia), with the ocean often on your right. On summer afternoons the nortada tends to blow from the north—hello, tailwind.

Finish in Ericeira, Portugal’s World Surfing Reserve, where whitewashed houses tumble toward blue water and seafood spots line the lanes. Max elevation sits under 150 m, but the rollers add up—pace it and save a little for the final lumps before town. Perfect ride: big horizons, salty air, and a celebratory plate of polvo at the end.
