Excursión ciclista de un día de Bottrop a Mülheim an der Ruhr

This ride takes you from Bottrop down to Mülheim, covering just over 20 km—a nice distance for a relaxed outing or a brisk workout, depending on your mood. Bottrop is known for its industrial roots and vibrant parks, so you’re starting somewhere with a ton of local character. As you leave the city, you’ll be on mostly paved and asphalt surfaces, so most of the way is smooth sailing, with only a bit of gravel to keep things interesting.

The route is pleasantly varied, mixing quiet roads and cycleways with some peaceful paths looping through local greenery. There’s a bit of up and down—expect just over 100 meters of ascent—nothing too daunting, but enough to keep you awake! You’ll roll past leafy stretches and maybe catch glimpses of the Ruhr’s old mining heritage.

Arriving in Mülheim, you’re greeted by a city straddling the Ruhr River, known for its museums and lively riverbank. If you’re lucky, the sun will be out for a riverside coffee at the end. All in all, it’s a scenic southwestern roll through the heart of the Ruhr!
