Rochester NY to Lockport NY

Finally a day of wonderful weather with only mild headwinds.

The first half of the ride was on the Empire State Trail/Erie Canalway Trail. Virtually all of it was unpaved. This was OK on this day of good weather, but it would be messy in the rain.

Due to finding a sign about half way through the ride saying the trail was closed ahead, we abandoned the trail and rode south maybe a mile to take NY Bicycle Rt 5, which runs along Rt 31. While there was some traffic, it wasn't excessive. Also, Rt 31 has mostly excellent road shoulder.

When we got into Medina and were on Rt 31E for a few miles, that was wonderful low-traffic road that went through an interesting old neighborhood. It was sad to have to rejoin Rt 31 at Middleport.
