The Lusatian Lakeland in southern Brandenburg is a former lignite mining area that is now being transformed into a tourism region with artificial lakes and new cycling routes. At its core lies the Lower Lusatia Mining Route, a cycling loop of more than 400 kilometers that passes through landscapes once dominated by open-cast mines.
