Senj - Brinje (over the Velebit)

Usually people avoid coming to Senj unless they use the coastal road "Jadranska magistrala".

For those who really use Senj as a start/end on a route from/to the mainland, they need to go over the mountain Velebit. Usual road for biking over Velebit is a main road which uses the Vratnik pass (about 700m asl). Unfortunately, this pass is heavy in traffic.

This route is an alternate over a Velebit which uses another pass. It's peak is at higher altitude than Vratnik but uses a road which is rarely used (only by few locals and forest rangers). Highest point is at Krivi Put - 820m asl.

Driven in summer 2009, mostly good pavement, but bad pavement can be found on the part from Krivi put to Prokike due to heavy logging trucks.
