The Odyssey of the Oryx starts in Oshakati, the unofficial capital of Ovamboland, the land inhabited by the Ovambo people in northern Namibia. This almost completely flat stage takes the riders in a southeast direction towards the Etosha National Park along dusty unpaved roads. This park's main characteristic is a salt pan so large it can be seen from space. The peloton will arrive at the old fort of Namutoni after 184 kilometers, where it will be up to the sprinters to decide who claims the first stage win.
