Mai Ndombe Province DRC

I was first to pedal this route by modern thru axle tubeless carbon frame fat tire bicycle, which is what you need to survive this region.  Cyclo-cross or any expedition wide tire conventional road bike frame won't survive the torture here.  Villagers pedal steel frame relics from before 1960, so forget trying to fix anything, even a flat tire, with their help. First, we loaded bikes onto bus for trip from Kinshasa to Bandundu.  From there, the route I used was to cut across Congo Rainforest tributaries--Kasai, Lukenie, and Lokoro.  At Lokolama I loaded bike onto dakadaka and took Lokoro for three days to Inongo on Lac Mai-Ndombe.  Then, took overnight dakadaka from Inongo to Nioki.  Pedaled from Nioki to Bolobo, then south along the Congo River escarpment to catch barge back to Kinshasa.
