z) CV Adriatica 6 Abruzzo cycle route Costa dei Trabocchi, 1: San Salvo to Ortona. Abruzzo ciclovia costiera, tratto 1: Costa dei Trabocchi, San Salvo - Ortona

A beautiful coastal cycle route is described in the Abruzzo region. Going northbound the starting point is fixed the new railway station of Vasto San Salvo where you can arrive by train (also the Trenitalia Intercity long distance trains stop here), several of which carry out the bike transport service. The arrival point of this stage is fixed at the port of Ortona, again at the railway station, where at present the segregated cycle part of this route ends. The cycle / pedestrian path continues at the level of the coast for a further 2 km, but to date without an outlet and to continue north you must cross Ortona and continue along the nr 16 national road SS 16 (see section 2). This stretch is also known as the Via Verde (greenway) dei Trabocchi or cycle path of the Trabocchi as the name of the characteristic wood trellis structures of fishing that stretch out over the sea.

Variant of S. Giovanni in Venere. A digression from Fossacesia Marina from the area of ​​the old station to reach the abbey of S. Giovanni in Venere is highly recommended even if this involves a short (2 km from the SS16 junction) but significant climb (5 %)

 

Critical issues (from July 31, 2021 survey)

The main criticality is constituted by the lack definitive testing of the entire infrastructure for which in reality we are still going through a construction site, even if it is devoid of real safety problems. In some places the continuity is a bit precarious, such as the entrance to the port of Ortona and the unfinished track for a few kilometers north of the locality of Le Morge. At the moment no signs are placed.

Safety advice

It is also important to note that at present it is safer to travel the Trabocchi cycle route from south to north. This is because it is much safer to take and get off the stretches of national road 16 "in hand" (on your right) without having to cross the same dangerous road pedaling southwards.

E' descritta una bella ciclovia costiera nel territorio della Regione Abruzzo. il punto di partenza è fissato alla nuova stazione ferroviaria di Vasto San Salvo dove fermano anche gli Intercity di Trenitalia diversi dei quali effettuano il servizio di trasporto bici. Il punto arrivo di questa tappa è fissato al porto di Ortona alla stazione dove oggi termina la parte ciclabile di questo percorso. La pista ciclopedonale prosegue al livello della costa per ulteriori 2 km, ma ad oggi senza sbocco e per proseguire verso nord si deve attraversare Ortona e proseguire per la ss 16 (vedi tratto 2). Questo tratto è conosciuto anche come via verde dei trabocchi o ciclovia dei trabocchi adl nome delle caratteristiche strutture a traliccio di legno da pesca che si allungano sul mare.

Variante S.Giovanni in Venere E' vivamente consigliata una digressione da Fossacesia Marina dall'area della vecchia stazione per raggiungere l'abbazia di S.Giovanni in Venere anche se questo comporta una breve (2 km dal bivio SS16) ma significativa salita (5%)

Criticità (verifica 31 luglio 2021)

La principale criticità è costitutita dal mancato collaudo definitvo di tutta l'infrastruttura per cui in realtà ancora si percorre un cantiere per quanto privo di problemi di sicurezza reali. In alcuni tratti la continuità è un po' precaria come ad esempio l'entrata al porto di Ortona e il sedime ancora non finito per alcuni km  a nord della località Le Morge.

Nota di sicurezza

E' importante notare infine che allo stato attuale è più sicuro percorrere la costa dei Trabocchi da sud verso nord. Questo perché risulta decisamente più sicuro imboccare e smontare dai tratti della strada statale 16 "alla mano" senza dover attraversare la stessa statale pedalando verso sud.
