Excursion à vélo d’une journée de São Teotónio à Aljezur

This scenic cycling route takes you from São Teotónio, a charming inland village known for its proximity to the Costa Vicentina’s rugged coastline, down to the historic town of Aljezur. Spanning about 34 km, it’s a great way to soak in the natural beauty of southern Portugal, with around 333 meters of ascent and 453 meters of descent – so you’ll be earning those views but also enjoying some nice downhill stretches.

You’ll roll through a mix of quiet country roads and unpaved tracks, weaving past cork oak woodlands, wildflower-strewn fields, and small rural hamlets. Expect some variety under your wheels — from asphalt to gravel, and the occasional sandy patch. This route is mostly peaceful (almost no busy roads!), so it’s perfect for a more relaxed ride or anyone looking to escape traffic.

Aljezur, your destination, is a lovely whitewashed town famous for its hilltop Moorish castle and sweet potatoes. Before you roll in, the last few kilometers offer sweeping views over the Aljezur river valley – a fitting end to a beautiful day’s ride. Don’t forget your camera!
