Excursion à vélo d’une journée de Amsterdam à Marken

This cycling route takes you from the vibrant heart of Amsterdam to the charming peninsula village of Marken. Covering just under 29 km, the ride is pancake-flat (only about 17 meters of climbing) and sticks mostly to smooth, dedicated cycleways—so it’s a super comfy pedal with hardly any car traffic.

You’ll head northeast out of Amsterdam, soon leaving the city’s buzz for tranquil Dutch countryside. Views of canals, grazing cows, and those iconic polder landscapes open up all around. Within a couple of hours, you’ll roll into Marken, once an island and now linked to the mainland via a dike. Its picturesque wooden houses and old lighthouse make for a classic Dutch postcard finish!

This route is almost entirely on paved surfaces and asphalt, making it perfect for all bikes and all levels. Don’t forget to grab some haring or poffertjes once you reach Marken—and snap a photo by the famous lighthouse!
