Excursion à vélo d’une journée de Gries am Brenner à Vipiteno

This ride takes you from Gries am Brenner, a picturesque Tyrolean village near the Austrian-Italian border, down to the charming town of Sterzing (Vipiteno in Italian) in South Tyrol. Most of the 27 km route is on smooth asphalt and well-paved cycleways, making for a comfortable and scenic journey through the Alps.

You’ll be starting high up at Gries, once an important stop on the historic Brenner Pass—one of Europe's most significant mountain crossings. Expect a good mix of ups and downs: you'll climb around 537 meters, but the route rewards you with a long descent of nearly 737 meters, sweeping you down into the Italian side.

Over half of the route winds along dedicated cycleways, though you’ll experience a few busier segments, especially closer to towns. The views? Epic mountain landscapes, rushing alpine streams, and classic Tyrolean villages all along the way. Your destination, Sterzing, is one of Italy’s most beautiful small towns, famous for its medieval streets, colorful facades, and the striking Zwölferturm tower at its center.
