À vélo de Bad Ischl à Strobl

Roll out from spa-famous Bad Ischl—home to the Kaiservilla and the legendary Café Zauner—and follow the Ischler Ache upstream toward Wolfgangsee. It’s about 13 km with a gentle ~190 m of climbing, mostly on quiet, paved roads, so it feels relaxed and scenic rather than sporty.

Leaving town, you’ll slip onto low-traffic lanes through Pfandl and meadows, with forested hills on either side. The route tracks the river for long stretches, then nudges upward before easing into Strobl. Surfaces are largely asphalt, with just the odd rougher bit, and traffic is minimal.

Rolling into Strobl, you’ll hit the eastern shore of brilliant-blue Wolfgangsee. Park the bike for a lakeside dip or gelato on the promenade, and enjoy big views toward the Schafberg. Strobl is also the gateway to the Postalm alpine pasture if you’re hungry for more climbing another day.

Tip: start with a pastry at Zauner in Bad Ischl; finish with a swim or a boat hop on Wolfgangsee from Strobl.
