Set off from Ludwigshafen am Rhein, a lively town right on the western banks of the Rhine and just across the river from Mannheim. This easygoing 11-kilometer ride will take you south towards the historic riverside village of Altrip.

The route is mostly paved, with a blend of asphalt, paving stones, and classic cobblestones—so any kind of bike will roll just fine here. You’ll spend the majority of your time on peaceful bike paths that wind their way through parks, quiet streets, and green areas, with only a quick spin along access roads or through pedestrian zones.

Elevation isn’t much of a worry; the route is almost perfectly flat. Roll past the iconic industrial edges of Ludwigshafen, then pedal through meadows and glimpses of the Rhine before you reach Altrip, which has roots going back to Roman times! It’s perfect for a relaxed outing with plenty of chances to pause by the water or grab a riverside snack at your destination.
