Excursion à vélo d’une journée de Děčín à Pirna

This scenic cycling route takes you from Děčín in the Czech Republic to the charming German town of Pirna, stretching just under 48 km along mostly paved and very rideable surfaces. The ride starts in Děčín, a riverside town known for its picturesque castle perched above the Elbe River—a great spot to grab a pre-ride coffee with a view.

You’ll spend a good portion of the ride on quiet roads and dedicated cycleways, rolling through a mix of lush river valleys and gentle hills. There’s a decent bit of ascent and descent, so you’ll get some exercise without feeling like you’re in the Alps. Most of the surfaces are smooth asphalt, making it suitable for all types of bikes.

As you approach Pirna, notice how the scenery shifts into classic Saxon Switzerland landscapes, with sandstone cliffs and historic villages. Pirna itself is a medieval gem, famous for its well-preserved old town and colorful market square—perfect for post-ride exploring (and maybe some ice cream!).
