Excursion à vélo d’une journée de Rio di Pusteria à Dobbiaco

Roll out from Mühlbach (Rio di Pusteria), skirting the old Mühlbacher Klause fortress, and settle into a steady upstream ride through the Puster Valley. The route covers about 56 km and mostly sticks to paved cycleways and quiet roads, with a few gravel stretches—nothing technical, but wider tires are nice. Follow the Rienz river past Vintl and Kiens, then cruise into Bruneck for a coffee stop and a peek at the castle above town.

From there the valley keeps nudging upward through Olang and Welsberg–Taisten, with gentle ramps and big meadow views. As you approach Niederdorf, the Dolomites start to frame the horizon; keep an eye out for side detours to riverside picnic spots.

Roll into Toblach (Dobbiaco), gateway to the Drei Zinnen and close to the pretty Lago di Dobbiaco. Fun fact: this plateau is a watershed divide—westward waters head to the Adige, eastward to the Danube via the Drava, which has its source nearby. Expect a net climb overall with some up-and-down, and mostly smooth surfaces with occasional loose gravel. Great ride for scenery lovers more than speed demons.
