Tolmin to Solkan Cycling Route

Set off from Tolmin, an outdoor lover’s haven nestled in the Soča Valley—famous for its turquoise river, music festivals, and epic hiking and biking spots. This ride takes you south through some of Slovenia’s most stunning hills on a mix of mostly quiet roads (73%), a dash of cycleway, and a smattering of tracks and paths.

Be ready for a workout: there’s a big climb (over 1800 m ascent!), and some tricky descents as you reach heights close to 936 meters. Surfaces vary—a good chunk is paved and asphalt, but don’t be surprised by some gravelly stretches and rustic ground here and there. Great for adventurous spirits and gravel bikes.

Solkan awaits you at the end, right by Nova Gorica. Look out for the historic stone Solkan Bridge, famously the world’s longest stone arch railway bridge. The area’s got a real cross-border vibe, sitting right on the edge with Italy and steeped in WWI history.
