Excursion à vélo d’une journée de Maribor à Ptuj

This route takes you from the lively city of Maribor, Slovenia’s second-largest city, known for its charming Old Town and the famous Old Vine—the oldest grapevine in the world. You’ll roll south toward the historic town of Ptuj, the oldest recorded town in Slovenia, where beautiful medieval streets, a stunning castle, and thermal spas await.

It’s a pleasant ride of just over 30 km, mostly following quiet roads, tracks, and some well-maintained cycleways. The terrain is mostly gentle, with a light ascent and a bit more descending as you approach Ptuj—so you can enjoy a relaxed pedal with nice views of the Drava River and the surrounding wine country.

Expect a mix of surfaces: the majority is paved or asphalt, but about a third of the way is on gravel—nothing too rough, just enough to feel a bit more adventurous. Ideal for hybrid or touring bikes! Pack a picnic, enjoy the Slovenian countryside, and finish your ride with Ptuj’s famous thermal bath or a stroll by the castle.
