This ride takes you from the medieval heart of Regensburg to the charming town of Straubing—an excellent way to explore a pretty stretch of Lower Bavaria by bike. Starting in Regensburg, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its well-preserved old town and the iconic Stone Bridge, you’ll follow mostly quiet paved roads and cycleways (over 90% of the route, thankfully).

The route runs about 50 km and is mostly flat, with just a handful of mellow climbs and descents—perfect for a relaxed day in the saddle. Expect scenic countryside views, small villages, and rolling fields as you follow the Danube much of the way.

When you reach Straubing, be sure to check out the vibrant town square (Stadtplatz) and the gothic St. Peter’s Church. The town is also famous for its Gäubodenvolksfest, one of Bavaria’s biggest festivals.

With little traffic, good surfaces, and plenty of culture at both ends, this is a classic riverside cycle to enjoy at your own pace.
