Highlights

  • Doubtless, Rio is a gorgeous city from the top of the Pão de Açúcar. It is the most comfortable to take the cableway directly to the top and to enjoy the panorama. The cable cars leave every 20 minutes.
  • A trip to the Amazon, named after the Greek warriors, is truly mystic. The best way to visit the jungle is with a tour boat, whereby you should try to book a trustworthy guide.
  • The Parque Nacional da Serra da Capivara is located off the usual tourist paths. The park is a world heritage and in it, there are over 400.000 cave paintings which are considered the oldest proof of human life on the southern hemisphere. Most of them are over 50.000 years old.

Tips

  • Never walk outside all by yourself at nighttime. This can get very dangerous especially at the beach.
  • When having to withdraw money, it’s best to look for a cash machine in a bank or a shipping centre as that’s safer than on the street.
  • Watch out for pickpockets. It’s best not to take any valuables with you and hold cameras or portmonnaies close to your body.
