Cycling day trip from Douliu to Lugu

Here’s a seriously scenic ride that’ll give your legs a good workout: start off in Douliu, the laid-back heart of Yunlin County, famous for its old streets and tasty night market snacks. From there, get ready to leave the urban vibes behind as you pedal east and start climbing towards Lugu in Nantou County. The total journey is around 51 km—manageable, but the 1,600+ meters of ascent means you’ll definitely feel every switchback.

The route winds mostly along access and quiet country roads, with just a splash of busier stretches. Expect to cruise past fields, little villages, and tea mountains as you make your way toward one of Taiwan’s most famous tea destinations. Lugu is legendary for its Dong Ding Oolong tea. If you’ve got time (and energy), reward yourself with a tea tasting or check out the cool Xi Ding observatory nearby.
