Cycling day trip from Tainan City to Kaohsiung City

This cycling route takes you on a fun journey from Tainan City down to Kaohsiung City, covering about 74 km through the heart of southern Taiwan. You’ll kick things off in Tainan, one of Taiwan’s oldest cities, rich in temples, street food, and historic charm. The ride is mostly chill: you’ll weave along quiet roads and dedicated cycleways, so you can relax and enjoy the scenery rather than dodge traffic.

There’s a little over 300 meters of ascent—but it's all spread out and with a max elevation under 31 meters, so you’ll mostly be rolling through flat or gently undulating terrain. Most of the route is on paved paths, though you might hit some surfaces where the paving quality changes, so wider tires might help keep things comfy.

Once you roll into Kaohsiung, you’ll be greeted by a lively port city with riverside parks, art spaces, and perhaps the best sunset in Taiwan at Sizihwan Bay. Pack a camera and some snacks—this ride is as much about soaking up local color as it is about spinning the pedals!
