Bikepacking from Yilan to Hualien City

Get ready for an epic ride! Starting out in Yilan, famous for its lush rice paddies and hot springs, you’ll head south to Hualien City, a lively spot hugged by the Pacific Ocean and dramatic mountains. This route covers a whopping 585 km—perfect for a multi-day touring adventure if you want to savor the scenery.

You’ll get your fill of climbs, with over 18,000 meters of ascent and descent, peaking at an altitude above 3,000 meters, so come prepared for mountain weather and lots of sweat! Luckily, a solid chunk of your journey (about 60%) rolls along quiet roads and cycleways, letting you soak in the views without too much traffic stress. Paved surfaces dominate, but since most of the surface details are missing, it’s wise to be ready for anything.
