Cycling day trip from Hsinchu to Chang-hua

Set off from Hsinchu, the Windy City famous for its high-tech industry and delicious rice noodles, and head south towards Chang-hua, known for its beautiful Bagua Mountain and historic temples. This route covers about 149 km, making it a rewarding challenge for a day trip or a relaxed overnight adventure.

You’ll spend most of your time pedaling along quiet roads and some great cycleways, with just a tiny bit of busy traffic here and there. The route is generally smooth and paved, though you’ll enjoy a mix of surfaces to keep things interesting. There are some gentle climbs—expect to ascend just under 1,000 meters in total—but the scenery in central Taiwan makes it worthwhile!

As you roll into Chang-hua, be sure to check out the iconic Great Buddha statue atop Bagua Mountain for a perfect end-of-ride photo. Pack some snacks, bring your camera, and get ready for a memorable ride through Taiwan’s heartland!
