Bikepacking from Hengchun to Taitung

Ready for an epic ride? This route rolls out from the historic heart of Hengchun, a charming town famous for its ancient city walls and night market eats, and takes you all the way to laid-back Taitung on Taiwan’s lush east coast. Stretching over 200 km, it’s definitely one for adventurous souls.

You’ll pedal past rugged coastlines, verdant hills, and winding backroads—the route is mostly quiet roads and tracks, giving you plenty of space to soak in southern Taiwan’s dramatic scenery. While there’s a fair share of elevation (better have those climbing legs ready!), the reward is sweeping ocean views and fresh breezes all the way.

Surface types vary a lot: expect some rough patches and missing pavement, but most of it is manageable on a decent road or gravel bike. Taitung itself is the perfect finish, known for hot springs, art installations, and a super relaxed vibe.
